Números ordinales / Ordinal numbers
Los tres primeros números ordinales son los siguientes:

Como se ve, en la abreviatura de los números ordinales aparece la
cifra y las dos últimas letras del ordinal, escrito en letra.
A partir del número cuatro, el ordinal se forma a partir del número
cardinal, añadiéndole «th»: número + th.

| 16º | decimosexto | 16th | sixteenth |
| 17º | decimoséptimo | 17th | seventeenth |
| 18º | decimoctavo | 18th | eighteenth |
| 19º | decimonoveno | 19th | nineteenth |
| 20º | vigésimo | 20th | twentieth |
Pero podemos ver ligeros cambios en algunos números:
five – fifth
(«-ve» cambia a «–f» antes de añadir «-th»)
eight – eighth
(al acabar en «t», sólo añade «-h»)
nine – ninth
(la «e» desaparece antes de añadir «-th»)
twelve – twelfth
(«-ve» cambia a «–f» antes de añadir «-th»)
twenty – twentieth
(la «y» cambia a «i» y se añade «-eth»)
Las decenas seguirán el modelo «-ieth»:
30th thirtieth
40th fortieth
50th fiftieth
60th sixtieth
70th seventieth
80th eightieth
¡En números compuestos por decena y unidad, sólo cambia a ordinal la unidad:
21st twenty-first
32nd thirty-second
63rd sixty-third
85th eighty-fifth
Los números ordinales se usan para indicar el orden en que sucede algo o la ubicación de las cosas:
This is my second flight to Denver.
Este es mi segundo vuelo a Denver.
Today is her 58th birthday.
Hoy es su 58º cumpleaños.
Take the first right and go straight.
Doble la primera (calle) a la derecha y siga recto.
Con ellos indicamos los distintos pisos o plantas de un edificio:
My aunt lives on the tenth floor.
Mi tía vive en el décimo piso.
Your room is on the fourth floor.
Su habitación está en el cuarto piso.
Y también se usan para decir las fechas (aunque en español usemos los números cardinales):
The meeting is on May 17th.
La reunión es el 17 de mayo.
Her birthday is on October 21st.
Su cumpleaños es el 21 de octubre.
