📜 A Bit of History:
Pennsylvania was one of the original 13 colonies and played a key role in the founding of the United States. In its most iconic city, Philadelphia, both the Declaration of Independence (1776) and the U.S. Constitution (1787) were signed. In fact, Philadelphia was the first capital of the United States before Washington, D.C. took over.
🕊️ The state’s name means “Penn’s Woods,” in honor of William Penn, an English Quaker who received the land as payment for a debt owed by King Charles II. Penn envisioned the colony as a haven for religious freedom and tolerance.
🍫 Fun Fact:
Pennsylvania is home to Hershey, the chocolate capital of America! The town was built as a model community for the workers of the Hershey chocolate factory, founded by Milton Hershey in the 19th century. It even features streetlights shaped like chocolate kisses! 💡🍬
⚔️ War Trivia:
During the Civil War, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was the site of one of the bloodiest and most decisive battles. President Abraham Lincoln later delivered the iconic Gettysburg Address there in 1863.
